State of Oklahoma to its citizens: “We don’t care about you.”

I hear all this high-minded feelgood talk coming out of some of our politician’s mouths about all the things they’re supposedly doing for us. How they’re looking out for small business owners and “essential workers” promising to “keep everyone safe.”

Cut the shit, alright? You talk the talk and institute a lot of symbolic gestures that look good on paper, but in reality, there is no safety net for anyone who isn’t rich.

People are having a hard time getting unemployment pay. Some have been forced to sit at home without pay for over a month now, and haven’t received a dime. That’s because y’all make it really fucking hard. But don’t take my word for it.

He’s right. A lot of people I personally know are having an extremely difficult time trying to jump through all of these hoops and get paid.

And what of those of us who are working? The expendable–er… essential workers? Where’s our hazard pay? Your sitting on your ass Zooming all kinds of warm fuzzy talk at each other doesn’t do shit for me but piss me off. Your do-nothing online virtue signaling uses too much bandwidth for even 5G to handle.

By the way, pardon my salty language. I know that dirty words are far more offensive to some around here than starving children, sky-high healthcare costs, or the problem of the homeless people you like to sweep under the rug so that you don’t have look at them.

Here’s an idea: remember when Jim Inhofe and a bunch of other senators dumped a shit-ton of stocks just ahead of this crisis?

“I wasn’t at that meeting,” says Jim. Oh, ok, yeah, I guess you had no way of getting that info from your cronies who were in attendance, right? Didn’t pass it on to you, or anything. You just spontaneously decided to dump your stocks and had the good fortune to do it at exactly the right time.

Let’s say you, for the sake of argument, did engage in insider trading, though. What happens next?

Those are all fine options, but maybe you should just hand over all of your ill-gotten gains to be redistributed to the struggling Oklahomans you’ve never given a fuck about? Just food for thought.

I’m no expert. I’m just an average Oklahoman with concerns. You likely won’t do anything to address them, but damn it, I’m going to make sure you hear them.

PS: congratulations to the Oklahoma legislature on their pay raise amidst record unemployment numbers. Ballsy!

  1. I have a tendency to use far, far too many words, so that I really appreciate your ability to get down to the heart of the matter in just a few:

“I know that dirty words are far more offensive to some around here than starving children, sky-high healthcare costs, or the problem of the homeless people you like to sweep under the rug so that you don’t have look at them.”

    Yep. Exactly.

  2. Thank you. Brevity is something I’m actively working on, myself. I don’t really like Twitter, but being forced to adhere to a character limit is good training for that.

  3. I also figured that since I’m in the media mix right now with my article about my dad dying of covid-19 still making waves, why sit around mad when I can make more noise?
