I’ve never been a fan of jazz. I’ve always recognized and appreciated its artistry, its technicality, and it’s influence on and presence in other forms of music, but I’ve just never gotten into it. I owned a copy of “A Kind of Blue” at one point, but I never listened to it much. I tried, though.
Earlier this evening, while driving home from work, I decided to listen to the radio. Yeah, actual FM radio. Crazy, huh? I turned it to one of the classical stations but they were running some jazz show. I was going to change the station, but then I decided to give the Jazz a chance, with an open mind. This came on and I really started vibing with it. I like chill jazz that sounds like that, with the flutes and bongos and all that. I’m not sure what you’d call that, as I know next to nothing about jazz. All I know is that I heard and enjoyed something I would otherwise have not been inclined to listen to. That’s always a good thing.
Jazz is one of the only forms of music I just really really really don’t like. But it’s good to get out of the comfort zone now and again.
